Notes from data review by Mike A'Hearn General - need to flag or reject poor quality of data Require that filenames not be by date of creation - date of observation ok. Target - go back to just using CAL for calibration targets Stardust - need the latest references! Ground-cal general - need to get other missions to do real-time logging and summarizing of what went on. DI Ground cal - need to add the Ball calibration plans (but need to clear ITAR) a. Make it clear that .cat files are plain text b. Need instrument handbook c. Get requirements document. d. TV4 - document/reports/report_20030222.asc is actually a blank document e. TV4 web pages sometimes refer to TV3 f. TV4 - has two directories documents/imagelog and documents/imagelogs - one had a TV2 file but the files are the same except for one file that has slight differences g. there are two templog directories - a true temperature log directory and an idl routine directory (one is plural the other singular) h. directories (and files) beginning with number 0 causes a problem in IRAF (0 gets dropped) i. groundcal is not a useful OBJECT in FITS header - experiment name would be better j. units typos in instrument.cat files k. html archive??? l. put more instrument.cat numerical info in a table rather than sentences m. make sure that later we archive the actual reduction process that we prefer gets archived later with the calibrated flight data SOHO How accurate is the conversion to V (i.e. how approximate is approximate) CIDA dataset.cat - says there are thumbnail images, but there aren't - should mention index table for recognizing real particles - says there is an in-flight example, but there isn't - need some references on how to calibrate the abundances and results from actual calibration experiments in the lab. - "target signal" needs to be explained - - no explanation of what the four channels are (or how they differ - how tell positive from negative - should be redundant by description "two redundant high and two redundant low") Remove cal-example old One has to guess what most things mean in the cal document. Must describe channels better - what is expected in each, explain why values don't correspond to figure, add an example from in-flight. Need examples of positive and negative and need examples that show both H and Ag. DFMI PVCF - highest mass threshhold of small area detector has zero counts. Is this a reasonable result given results on large area detector? Acoustic sensor - not clear whether cumulative counts or count rates. One bumper microphone drops way down - is this a reset? is it saturation? is it rollover? Column headings - clarify high and low what (and fix wrong ones) Too much detail about telemetry data stream in PDF file table 1, page 3 - confuses people about whether byte structure is relevant to the table. Is there a temperature in the telemetry for the power supply? If so, put it in the table. Documents say acoustic time resol = 1 sec and PVCF resol = 0.1 sec. What is the meaning of the millisec resolution in the table? Need good calibration data for impact sensors (density dependence, etc.) Provide guidance on which calibration to use and how much uncertainty there is in the calibration. (paper quoted uncertainty of factor 3!) Stardust - NAVCAM mission.cat - out of date (wrong tense, wrong CA distance, etc.) inst.cat - make sure contamination and cal history is right dataset.cat - point to log files some column headings for index table aren't clear - reticle points, document banding of noise in images Stardust - high rate s/c rate components - shows a point to point oscillation of +- 0.0002 rad/sec is this measurement noise? Highest detectable frequency, i.e. every other point. There are some significant (.001 rad/sec) events on top of this, but how does one interpret it? Need to know some ephemeris info - like time of CA etc. Small forces - no info on precision of measurements Shape Model Need a real geometry diagram relative to the vernal equinox etc. How choose which pole is positive? How define W?
