Comet Review, 13 June 2008 - Liens ================================== Stardust Raw Image data sets ---------------------------- Beatrice Mueller notes that in her FITS viewer the bars expected to be horizontal were, in fact, vertical. Catalog files need tech editing. While doing this, remove any references to "people to contact" who are beyond reasonable contact. B. Mueller has written lists of typos, as does S. Larson. In Annefrank data, there is a reference in the aareadme.txt to an external "aareadme.lbl" file that doesn't exist. Richard Chen emailed standards compliance problems. Stardust Calibrated Images of Wild 2 ------------------------------------ Tony has a lien from Jianyang re: zeroing out effects. S. Larson has a list of typos. Richard Chen emailed standards compliance problems. DI Surface Temperature Maps --------------------------- Note prominently in the dataset.cat file that the last map is truncated because of impact activities. Correct the spelling of Olivier Groussin's surname in the dataset.cat CITATION_DESC, and remove the space in the DATA_SET_ID value in same. In document/hriv_9000909_0001_context.lbl, the word "map" is repeated in the description. Add a pointer to the shape model in the data/plate_temp.lbl. SOHO ---- In dataset.cat, in the "Processing" section, clarify the description of (X,Y) position and extrema in the final paragraph. DI MRI Photometry of Tempel 1 ----------------------------- Add a reference to the "Deep Impact MRI Photometry Report" (in the document directory) to the dataset.cat. If possible, add this report to the next update of the DI documentation set. The precision of the time should also include modifying the time columns so that both reflect the true accuracy/precision of the data. Remove delimiters from data table files. Investigate the true accuracy of the time values (Julian Date and UTC) in the data tables, and what corrections have actually been applied, then update the tables and labels accordingly. Add a column to indicate spacecraft-comet range to the photometry table. Compiled Comet Lightcurves -------------------------- Need to include more detailed magnitude information in the tables. The labels do not have MISSING_CONSTANT keywords for columns where there are clearly such constants in use. Times must be more explicitly indicated as observation time, light-travel time corrected, etc. There are discrepancies in the correlation between Julian dates and UTCs. The ephemeris information appears to be at zero UTC rather time of observation. This information must be for the mid-time of observation. Make sure that those files that are secular lightcurves are clearly distinguished from rotational light curves. In the Borrelly files, the Mueller & Samarasinha reference (the main source) is missing. In the Encke files, the magnitudes are described as nuclear magnitudes, but this seems unlikely. Verify that this description is accurate or modify accordingly. In the Encke nuclear magnitude file label, in the column 5 description, replace "crxn" with "correction". Make the same change to the column 8 name. The column 8 DESCRIPTION also needs to reference "color". In the Encke nuclear magnitude table file, verify that the change in sign of the color correction (column 8) is not a typo. In fact, the numbers were questioned in many cases. These need to be rechecked against the sources. There are two references in ref.cat that were in press and have now been published - Hsieh, et al. 2003 is actually 2004, and Jewitt & Sheppard was published in 2004. In the ref.cat file, all hyphens between page ranges have disappeared, making the page ranges unreadable. In all label files, the DESCRIPTION values need to actually provide some description, not just echo the column name, and the column NAME and DESCRIPTION should be correlated. Change the name of levy 1991 to "P" rather than "C". This will have to be propagate through volume files and the data files. Correct target catalog file names to use appropriate SBN files names. =========================================================================== Comments by Richard Chen (EN) ----------------------------------------- I won't repeat comments I gave to the asteroid people on uppercase dirs and files and such, since you presumably know those issues well.
