NH-J-SDC-2-JUPITER-V3.0 ======================= The version number is constantly wrong in throughout the data set. aareadme.txt ------------ The "Volume Format" section says these volumes were formatted to PDS V3.7. Why wasn't the current version of the PDS Standards used? There's a change of syntax in the directory tree description that is not explained; the lack of alphabetical ordering in the directory map is problematic and precluded cross-checking against the actual directory content - at least by me. The directory tree references a non-existent "CUMINDEX.TAB" file and its label, and does not list the other files in the INDEX directory. The URLs references should be updated for the current delivery. The "PDS Label Overview" section should be deleted. It is at best incomplete and misleading. It is at worst a misrepresentation of (a superseded version of) the PDS standards that introduces some jargon that NEVER appeared in any PDS Standards Reference. voldesc.cat ----------- VOLUME_FORMAT is wrong.. Time range listed in description doesn't match actual time range in data. There is a reference to a non-existence DUST.CAT file. calib/sdc_cal_matrix.lbl ======================== The DATA_SET_ID list does not reference the present V3.0 data set. Apart from the occasional grammatic atrocity, it is not clear from the DESCRIPTION what the difference is between "average error" and "error". Averaged over what? Worse, this seems to be a description of a table with 4 columns, not a 4-dimensional array. catalog/ ======== dataset.cat ----------- ********* N.B. === The dataset.cat file is an essential part of a PDS3 data set, but this file was clearly neither updated nor reviewed for the V3.0 data in anything but a completely superficial way. This shows a lack of attention to detail and a disrespect for the standards and review process that completely undermine my confidence in the entire data set. I would not approve it for review with the essential documentation in this state. I have very, very strong objections to it being brought to review in this condition. ********* !!! Wrong version in descriptions very nearly everywhere. !!! ARCHIVE_STATUS should be omitted. The value included here is "LOCALLY ARCHIVED" which cannot possibly be correct. The CITATION_DESC claims a publication date of 2007, which cannot possibly be correct. The CONFIDENCE_LEVEL_NOTE appears to contain information that ought to be in the DATA_SET_DESCRIPTION. There is no update section for V3.0 in the CONFIDENCE_LEVEL_NOTE. The "Review" section of the CONFIDENCE_LEVEL_NOTE is for documenting PDS Peer Reviews, not internal development. And given the state of this file, I suspect the statement itself is not true. The DATA_SET_NAME value does not indicate the processing level (and thus is prone to confusion with similar data sets). The DATA_SET_TERSE_DESC lists the wrong version. START_TIME and STOP_TIME don't even agree with the directory names, let alone the actual time range in the data. There is a reference to the non-existent CUMINDEX.TAB file in the description field. It is not clear to me that the INDEX.TAB file contains the parameters referenced in the "Data Set Overview". It's the "PDS NAIF Node", not the "NAIF PDS Node". "NAIF" should be defined before using the acronym. It is inappropriate to have an "Unresolved Liens" section in a DATA_SET DESCRIPTION field. Data sets may not be archived with unresolved liens, and the DESCRIPTION field is NOT a data preparer's notebook. Note that I did not attempt to read the text carefully. The above should, therefore, be considered representative samples of the problems that would be found on a careful reading. nh.cat ------ There are two garbage lines at the beginning of this file which must be removed. I did not attempt to review this in detail. nhsc.cat -------- There are two garbage lines at the beginning of this file which must be removed. I did not attempt to review this in detail. sdc.cat ------- "Instrument Overview" must be the first topic in the DESCRIPTION (attribution should be placed below the heading). I did not attempt to review this in detail. data/ ===== !!! THE DATA_SET_ID IS WRONG IN THE LABELS !!! document/ ========= Documents do not list the present DATA_SET_ID value as relevant. Why are there tabular data files in this directory? Looks like they should be in either calib/ or geometry/. "samples/" directory does not appear to contain samples from this data set wrong DSID). (Of course, the data set doesn't appear to contain the data from this data set, either.) index/ ====== index.tab/.lbl -------------- The column definitions are incorrect in many cases (BYTES appears to be wrong frequently, and results in delimiters being included in values and invalid characters included in the last column. I did not attempt to itemize these errors. INDEX_TYPE is incorrect. The DESCRIPTION for column 3 is incorrect in that "data file" is not equivalent to "product". I did not attempt to read the entire label. slimindx.tab/.lbl ----------------- There is an (invalid) INDEX_TABLE pointer that does not match the TABLE object. Both FILE_RECORDS and ROWS are incorrect. No further attempt to validate.
