Reviewed WRL files before the data were posted Nat suggested that the reference system that was used for deriving the model be included in the documentation ============================================================================ Working with DSK models Learned the basics of the Alpha version of the SPICE shape model routines Performed the main high level SPICE routines on a couple of test models and compared them to the results from the shape model programs I've written Able to: Load and access the various models Compute the Sub-spacecraft point (cart, lat/lon) and determine which facet it intersects Compute the Sub-solar point (cart, lat/lon) and determine which facet it intersects Compute the intersection (Cart, lat/lon) of an arbitrary ray with the surface, and determine what facet it intersects Compute the illumination angles for arbitrary locations on the surface Note: Didn't try terminator/limb calculations, because rosetta violates the ellipsoidal shape model ============================================================================= Basic test: compare shape model to NAVCAM images (Used WRL files) Used SPICE to compute the s/c orientation and sun orientation WRT to the shape model - Works pretty well - Reproduced the approximate orientation seen in images - Note: the orientation is different in SPC and MSPCD files -- coordinate system is different -- MSPCD seems to reproduce images better than SPC Also, found that the geometry in the image headers appears to be incorrect Example image from "2014 Aug 21 14:07:18.10"
